Mongo
Mongo, a La Mancha goat known for his elf-like ears, was born with contracted front legs, with the left leg being more severely affected. Despite multiple attempts at splinting by his previous owners, his right leg showed some improvement but never fully straightened. His left leg, unfortunately, became completely unusable. Despite these challenges, Mongo has adapted well and remains mobile, although he has begun to experience fluid retention in his knee.
In an area where veterinarians typically do not treat animals considered "livestock," the suggestion was made to euthanize him. At seven months old, Mongo is playful, has a healthy appetite, and is otherwise in good health, aside from his physical limitations. His owners, determined to avoid euthanasia, sought out specialized care, ultimately traveling from Northern Illinois to Knoxville, Tennessee, to meet with our transport that brought Mongo to Bella View, his new sanctuary. Here, Mongo's contracted leg has fused in its position, but he has learned to navigate life effectively with his disability. To aid in his mobility, Mongo has been fitted with a prosthetic device, which has significantly improved his ability to move around.
