Joey
Joey arrived in 2019, a tragic start with his mother dying at birth. Found wet and cold in the barn, he was brought inside. Unaware of his need for colostrum to boost immunity or iodine for his navel to block infection, his caretakers missed crucial steps. Infection invaded, targeting his knees, leading to 'joint ill,' a severe condition. Joey's front legs suffered; his right was severely contracted, knee swollen with the painful infection, while his left was weak, bending inward awkwardly. Advised repeatedly to euthanize him due to his inability to walk, his owners hesitated and sought our help.
Upon arrival, Joey was immediately treated with antibiotics and his knee splinted. He underwent treatment multiple times daily for weeks until the infection was managed. Despite this, his other leg remained contracted after numerous splints and physical therapy.
A surgical intervention on his right leg was successful, although it was expected to remain unbending. Defying odds, Joey thrived through extensive physical therapy and exercises in his chair, gaining a bendable leg. Now, Joey roams the goat barn, walking and even running, embodying the lesson never to surrender, a testament to his unyielding spirit.
