Harry

Little Harry brims with personality, and it's hard not to adore him, especially when he wiggles his lips for affection. His "forever wink" might escape initial notice. Harry suffered from squamous cell carcinoma on the corneal surface of his right eye and was surrendered by his previous owners who could no longer manage his care. The severity and discomfort necessitated the removal of Harry's eye to prevent the cancer from spreading. At Bella View Farm Animal Sanctuary, we provided Harry with the necessary treatment, which involved surgical removal of his eye to prevent further growth or metastasis. Upon his arrival, we allowed Harry time to adjust to his new environment, companions, routine, and caretakers before scheduling surgery. He adapted quickly, aiding in a smoother surgery and recovery. Harry is also susceptible to Founder, necessitating frequent stalling and a grazing muzzle to control his grass consumption. Foundered horses cannot process the high sugar fructans in rapidly growing grass, leading to bacterial overgrowth in the large intestine and the release of toxins that damage the foot's laminae and blood vessels. Diagnosed with insulin resistance, Harry requires a sugar- and starch-reduced diet, achieved by soaking his hay. He receives daily supplements and wears special boots for support and comfort. When turned out to pasture, he must wear a grazing muzzle to limit his grass intake. While his care may seem extensive, it ensures his well-being.

Harry's birthday is January 20, 1997
