Ebby

Meet Ebby, a tiny Pygmy goat who was born unable to stand. It's possible that the delay in his mother's grooming, which is crucial for stimulating breathing in newborns, may have resulted in oxygen deprivation, necessitating urgent care. He was taken to Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine for evaluation, where he was diagnosed with neurological deficits, specifically cerebellar dysfunction, which affects coordination. Despite recommendations for euthanasia, his owner sought alternative support.
There is no cure for his condition, only supportive care. The cerebellum is crucial for coordination, and its impairment means Ebby is unsteady and requires assistance to walk. Like our other goat named Rocky with the same condition, Ebby's symptoms vary in severity. Initially reliant on a wheelchair when he arrived at only 9 days old Ebby has gained strength through daily exercise and growth, allowing him to move independently, albeit with some wobble. His perseverance and progress make him a cherished miracle at the Sanctuary.

Ebby's birthday is February 5, 2023
