Clover

Clover is an Alpine goat.  we were contacted about a small Alpine goat with mobility issues. We learned that she had broken her back a few years prior but had healed over time with physical therapy and medication, regaining her ability to move. Recently, she became immobile again, and despite receiving the same treatment from her previous owner, this time she did not recover. The challenging hilly terrain and lack of time and equipment for her care were significant obstacles. So, they kept her in a stall.
Upon Clover's arrival, in 2022, she was much larger than expected. It seemed she had been dragging her hind legs for some time, as indicated by the bald and calloused skin above her hooves. It was unclear how she managed to move as described, but it was apparent she wasn't walking on all four legs.
To assist her, we used a harness and ratchet straps attached to the barn's rafters to lift her into a wheelchair. In her wheelchair, she is quite mobile and visibly delighted to be upright.
She has undergone evaluation and been prescribed anti-inflammatory medications and steroids, but it was uncertain if she would regain movement in her hind legs. Over time, it became clear that she would remain unable to use them. Nevertheless, she navigates well with a rear wheelchair and has become quite fond of her bestie Peach. Clover is our largest disabled goat, weighing in at 97 lbs.

Clover's birthday is January 22, 2017
