Introducing Steve the rooster, who unfortunately was attacked by his flock mates as a young chick. The assault was severe enough to render him blind. He was lovingly nursed back to health by a human, but they were unable to provide the ongoing care he required. Despite his blindness, Steve is able to locate his food and water, as long as they remain in a consistent place. He now enjoys a dedicated space of his own, alongside his companion Nickie.

 

Nickie used to live in the large coop but faced severe bullying. She was taken inside, and her injuries were cared for. After she healed, I attempted to reintegrate her with the flock, but it was unsuccessful. The bullying resumed, and she had to be brought back indoors for treatment. Once she recovered for the second time, I decided not to expose her to that environment again, so she transitioned to Chicken Alley, our area for disabled birds, and has been sharing space with Stevie since then.
