Hope the chicken is a Rhode Island Red hen that we were contacted about. She had been roaming the streets, dodging cars, and huddled up around local businesses for several days. She wasn't doing too well from what we were told. When I went to get her she thankfully did not try to get away. As I picked her up I felt that her hind end was extremely swollen. She was either egg bound or had ascites (water belly). Along with that she was full of maggots and fly eggs! She was flushed several times, treated with antibiotics and meds. After 2 days of flushing the maggots were gone along with the eggs, and thankfully they did not get the chance to do any deep damage, just superficial tissue damage that will heal with time and care.
